PREMIUM, HANDMADE PRINTS OF YOUR WORK

Designed for Photographers, Printed to Order

  • Fine and Work Prints are prints made using a modern digital inkjet printer with pigment ink. The pigment process is the highest quality way of reproducing photographs digitally today - that’s because pigment ink doesn’t fade over time. The pigment printing process isn’t complicated, we just know how to do it really well at Reed Prints.

  • There are four differences between Fine and Simple Prints, which determines the difference in price:

Paper type - Fine Prints are made on the highest quality inkjet papers available. They’re thick and have gorgeous surface textures. Simple Prints are prints are made on mid-weight photo paper. These papers still render colors beautifully, they just don’t have a premium feel.

Color correction - Every Fine Print is custom color corrected using ICC profiles to ensure consistent, beautiful results. Simple Prints are not color corrected.

Print resolution - Fine prints are printed at the highest possible resolution, making them suitable for larger prints and viewing from a distance. Simple Prints are printed at a lower print resolution.

Finish - Every Fine Print is treated with a complimentary spray coating which helps protect it from moisture, scratch and UV damage, ensuring it will last a long time. Simple Prints are not treated with a spray coating.

  • It’s most productive and profitable to print in batches, so all print orders are fulfilled on the first week of every month in the order they are received during the month. We believe good prints come slowly, and encourage patience while you wait for your art to be delivered. Custom orders are a one-on-one process and are fulfilled outside of this printing schedule.

  • Custom orders are available for Fine Prints. Paper can be cut or torn to any size, and we love experimenting with new papers if you have something specific in mind. Reach out at hello@reedprints.studio with “custom order” in the subject line.

FAQ: Fine & Simple Prints

FAQ: The Darkroom Print

  • Darkroom Prints are handmade silver gelatin prints printed by traditional negative enlarging in a darkroom. Before digital printing was possible, this method was the standard for photographic printing. Many artists remain dedicated to printing this way today - some claiming it to be the only real way to print a photograph, because only light, chemistry and mechanics are used to enlarge the negative into a print without digital intervention. Silver gelatin prints have a tonal range, softness, and handmade quality to them that is irreproducible outside of a darkroom, making these prints truly special.

  • The best Darkroom Prints result from printing days, or long periods of time spent in the darkroom at once. Like Fine and Work Prints, Darkroom Print orders are fulfilled on the first week of every month in the order they were received during the month. If your Darkroom Print order includes more than 10 prints, please anticipate extended production time.

  • You place your order and are given the opportunity to include detailed notes about your negatives and what you’re looking for in your in your Darkroom Prints, or you can allow Reed Prints to use creative discretion.

You are sent a mailer with a complimentary return shipping label, including instructions on how to select and pack your negatives, and then mail them to Reed Prints.

Reed Prints makes your Darkroom Prints by hand and ships them to you, returning your original negatives with the prints.
