Chase at Home - Hunter Folsom Lacey
Dallas, Texas, December 2022
From the artist: “This is a photograph of my brother Chase that I made shortly before Christmas 2022. It was the first time in a while that I had spare time to just bring my camera around everywhere I went and take time to make photos. I've photographed Chase a lot over the years, and this was one of those lucky ones -- I didn't know if I'd gotten anything worthwhile, but when I pulled this out of the developing tank, I knew I had something. I think this captures the simultaneous closeness and distance my brother and I share. He is comfortable with me photographing him, but there is a level that we can never connect on because he is nonverbal due to the fact that he has Congenital Encephalopathy. It is part of a larger project I've been working on about life phases and the passing of time through my eyes.”
